The current gas prices have a fair amount of people dipping deeper into their pockets or driving less. The lifestyle changes that these current gas prices have brought upon us have been a double edged sword for some aspects of our way of life in that driving less is a good thing for the environment because we pollute the air less and use less of this limited resource. On the other hand, driving less means we go fewer places and buy less, which cuts down on the income that retailers are used to seeing. Instead of hanging a new shirt in the closet, we are putting that money into our gas tanks on a weekly basis.
People are getting creative about how to save gas, and those who can are buying vehicles that get much better mileage. Detroit is really suffering, since most of the vehicles it produces are gas guzzling trucks and SUV's. The car industry has been suffering, and until the car makers in this country start rolling out vehicles that are more fuel efficient, America's auto makers are likely to suffer with poor sales until these current gas prices drop.
