I'm not an American, though I do live (legally) in the United States. From the perspective of an outsider, there is something farcical about the 2008 presidential election campaign. However, it's not just the 2008 presidential election that seems absurd, it is the whole mud slinging attitude of politics and the media in general. I watch 2008 presidential election candidates rip each other to shreds during televised debates and laugh because it is all for nothing. The next president in the United States will be who ever has the most money with which to campaign. Since banks and corporations sponsor candidates, the rich get to choose the next president. The choice of the people has nothing to do with it. I laugh when I hear people describe America as being a land of freedom and democracy. There is nothing democratic about the political process in the United States, and the 2008 presidential election will offer proof of that. In my opinion, Hilary Clinton has probably already been chosen by the richest people in this country to be the next President. The media noise between now in then is merely a ruse to make the people think they actually have a choice.
