Current Gas Prices Dictate Shorter Work Week |

Current gas prices have all of us scrambling for different ways to fill our tanks and pay for it. While the current gas prices are scandalous, it seems like most of us are still filling up. I have been a lot of news reports about municipal governments going on four day work schedules because they are trying to conserve energy, and it just makes sense to do it. Hospital workers have long been on 12 hour shifts for years, and when you think about it, there's no reason why city workers can't work longer days. If the medical community trusts its workers to put in long days where lives are at risk at their hands, there's no reason why jobs in less risky professions can't have longer days where the risks are far less. Cities stand to save tons of money on energy costs, and the workers will too, slashing at least 20% of their fuel cost and at today's current gas prices, that counts for a lot. Plus, the cities will shave their utility bills, as well. Seems like a win-win to me. |
